Shannon Valentine-Snyder has all her adult life been an entrepreneur. When she left the state of Pennsylvania to pursue year round riding she became an Interior Designer to support her sport. She worked in Naples, Miami and South Beach and soon formed Valentine Interior Design. She expanded her designs to refurbishing historical homes, new model homes and private residences.

As an activist with a penchant for neglected horses, Shannon became a licensed horse rescuer. Over the years, Shannon has rescued hundreds of horses from all over the U.S. and Canada. While living in the Everglades, Shannon resumed running her farm, Soapstone Stables. With her rescue horses needs ever growing, Shannon faced many difficulties due to an environment that is riddled with insects, sand, heat and a tropical rainy season. Thrush, scratches, summer itch, mange and rain rot became a major issue along with the infections, flies, fungus, etc. Not being able to watch her horses suffer,

Shannon bought every conceivable product available to relieve the problems. What she learned was that most of the products were pyrethrum based, which made her sick. Breathing the vapors caused swollen glands, along with a swollen neck and upper respiratory problems, until eventually she was placed on an inhaler. Because of her children, she started studying organic alternatives. It was at this juncture that her father, Don Wilshe, founder of BioBased USA, suggested she start experimenting with his product. After several years, Shannon developed a byproduct that is 100% organic for animals and safe for children

– The EqiMend family of products!

EqiMend Cream: A face cream for horses that has a small amount of natural sunblock and retards flies on the horse’s face.

It works extremely well on minor cuts, abrasions, lacerations, scratches, hives, insect bites, summer itch, mange, rain rot, and proud flesh. EqiMend Cream is safe for human use. EqiMend Cream is available in a four-ounce jar at $6.50 and eight-ounce jars at $24.50. These jars or packers are blue in color, which store and protect light-sensitive materials.

EqiMend Wash: Is an equine wash, which when used proportionately, proves to be 100% effective in eliminating the sources that cause rain rot and summer itch, improves overall coat condition and when sprayed in the hoof, treats thrush. EqiMend Wash will whiten socks, manes and tails. Dramatically reduces fly populations on horses and when sprayed in stables and trailers. EqiMend Wash will heal fly bite dermatitis, tail rubbing and acts as all over moisturizer. It is not an insect “repellent”. Rather, flies are not attracted to the mild essential-oils aroma, much like the geranium plants retard mosquitoes. EqiMend Wash acts like a protective band aid, and is safe for human use as it is 100% organic. EqiMend Wash comes in an eight-ounce container for $36.00, 16-ounce container for $72.00, and 2.5-gallon container for $180.00. Please note that EqiMend Wash is in a concentrated form.

Proportioner: The proportioner may be purchased separately. It works like the Hose End Sprayer and has a dial. With EqiMend Wash you use two ounces of product per gallon for bathing and prevention. Wash the horse from the poll, over the entire body to tail including hooves until it bubbles. There is no need to rinse.

EqiMend products do not have to be reapplied daily. If the horse is out in the rain, or has been sweating, the product may be reapplied as a drench. Shannon uses the wash on her herd of 17 horses daily. “Use it as you would to wash any horse. If you wash your horse every day, use it every day,” says Shannon. EqiMend products have multiple uses and are not limited solely to use on horses. Shannon is presently working with veterinarians and medical doctors at the North Carolina State University, to further product development.

The wash can be used to clean horse trailers and barn stalls to help deter flies. EqiMend Wash has been used to remove animal odors from clothing, carpet and horse laundry.      Currently, EqiMend Wash is being used in third world countries for lice control at orphanages. Shannon’s daughter also uses the EqiMend Cream to heal her eczema. The products are effective for bee stings, bug bites, and fire ant bites on humans.
